Standing with LA: Helping fire-affected communities recover
The Palisades and Eaton fires have been among the most destructive wildfires ever to hit Los Angeles County, and among the top five most devastating in California history. While official damage assessments are still underway, these two fires alone damaged or destroyed an estimated 16,200 structures, including at least 234 multifamily properties and eight mixed-use commercial/residential properties according to a recent JLL report. The fires forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate, leaving many without power or access to essential resources.
Thanks to the tireless work of first responders, both fires were fully contained by the start of February. But as the region continues to recover, community support is and will continue to be invaluable to helping people who have been displaced and ensuring firefighters have what they need to rise to future challenges.
Headquartered in Los Angeles and active members of the LA real estate community, PearlX believes in stepping up when our city needs us most. We are proud to support World Central Kitchen and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Foundation to make a meaningful impact during this critical time as we collectively look towards relief and recovery.
Community care in action
With a history of responding to crises worldwide, World Central Kitchen served over 109 million meals across 20 countries last year alone — and lately has been on the ground in LA providing fresh, nourishing meals to families displaced by the fires.
One of the nonprofit’s local Chef Corps members, Daniel Shemtob, lost his home in the fires. In the face of his devastating loss, he says he found solace in giving back. “When I’m out there on my truck serving thousands of people who have had similar situations to me, that’s why I got into this business,” he shares. “I love giving part of my soul through food, and that’s what I’ve got to do.”
WCK’s response to the LA fires has served more than 415,000 meals, with 70+ restaurant and food truck partners contributing to the cause.
Supporting first responders
The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is helping enable the brave firefighters working valiantly to contain the wildfires and protect our communities. Despite their vital work, only a small fraction of the city’s fire budget is allocated for essential tools and resources. The LAFD Foundation helps fill these gaps by funding equipment, safety programs, and other supplies that help ensure firefighters can respond effectively.
With private and public donations alike, the LAFD Foundation has been able to provide much-needed equipment to fire stations, from new fire shelters and brush bags to protective gear designed to keep firefighters safe on the front lines.
Coming together for recovery
We are grateful for the dedication of these organizations and humbled to support their efforts. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by these devastating fires, and we encourage others to join us in backing these incredible relief efforts.
Together, we can help nourish and protect the communities we care so deeply about.
